Heating 'bigger concern' than mortgages
More people now consider heating their property to be a bigger financial headache than their mortgage, research shows.
According to survey results released by Co-operative Energy, 56% of households are concerned about their heating costs, compared to 39% who worry about mortgage payments the most.
Heating is also more of an issue than transport costs, which 30% are most worried about, and the costs of doing a weekly shop.
Co-operative Energy's Nigel Mason said: "Our latest research findings have identified some surprising and frankly worrying results from beleaguered energy consumers."
Almost half of the consumers polled by the firm (47%) said they are concerned about the impact high heating bills could have on elderly members of their family.
In the last year, 12% of respondents also said they have found it hard to pay their energy bills on more than one occasion.
